Mr Jon SW Ong was Singapore’s first and longest serving Head of Military Law and for 30 years an ardent advocate of military justice. He was variously also Head of Operational Law, and first Legal Registrar of the Singapore military courts, including its Court of Appeal.
An avid community leader since his youth, Jon was Vice-President of NUSSU and NUS Co-Operative, Chair of University Society Study Group, Corporate Member on the Board of Peoples’ Association, and the Advisory Boards of Crescent Girls School and Henry Park Primary, among other community services, both locally and regionally.
He is a recipient of various awards including the public administration medal (PPA) and LSA. Jon was global director on the boards of Scripture Union International (SUI), International Society of Military Operations (ISMLLW), and a Teaching Fellow at the Regional Centre for Military and International Humanitarian Law (CoMIHL).
Jon studied law at the NUS (LLB Hons), the US Army Judge Advocate General School (LLM), East China University of Politics and Law, and Harvard Negotiation Project, and he holds a Graduate Diploma in Christian Studies (TCA College).
